Following vicious winds in the region overnight, the city of Mercer Island reports that some Islanders are without power today.
Puget Sound Energy crews are presently on the Island restoring service on outages primarily located on the north end and Town Center, including several intersections.
“Remember: treat any dark intersection as a four-way stop and drive carefully,” the city said.
SCHOOLS NEWS
Mercer Island School District reported this morning that West Mercer Elementary School will have a two-hour late start today due to power issues at the school.
A transformer on West Mercer Way — which supplies most of the power to the nearby school — caught fire this morning.
“The school has limited power this morning and this two-hour late start will ensure our facilities team can make the school completely ready for students and staff,” the district said.
It is not known what caused the fire, the district reports.
