Saint Monica eighth-grade girls volleyball wins title

Saint Monica school’s eighth-grade girls volleyball team won the Archdiocese of Seattle CYO Volleyball AA Championship on April 26 at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle. The St. Monica team defeated the team from Saint Vincent de Paul (Federal Way) for the championship.

St. Monica went through the regular season undefeated and finished in first place in their division. The team then went to the playoffs to compete against the top teams from four different divisions. Saint Monica defeated four teams to win the championship trophy: Saint Thomas More School (Lynnwood), Holy Rosary School (Edmonds), Villa Academy (Seattle) and Saint Vincent de Paul School (Federal Way) during the playoff matches.

MI boys win Starfire soccer tourney

The Eastside Football Club Boys U12 Red soccer team won the Starfire Spring Classic tournament, April 25-27, in Tukwila. The team scored 32 goals with no goals against them. The boys defeated Emerald City FC White, Shoreline Revolution and GRFC Red in bracket play en route to a semi-final victory over Crossfire Black, 3-0, and a 3-0 championship win over Evergreen FC Red. Mercer Island residents on the team are Alex Chung, Cody Gibson, Ryan Hill and Gideon Tamir. The team is coached by Tom Bialek.

Na helps Sammamish

Rowing to title

Mercer Island High School sophomore Nicole Na helped the Sammamish Rowing Association to win the Brentwood Regatta in Mill Bay, British Columbia, on April 25-27. Na is a coxswain in the girls junior B novice, which won gold in its race, crossing the finish line in a time of 6:02.78.
