The city of Mercer Island’s Design Commission gave final design approval to both St. Monica School and the Mercer Island School District for upcoming building projects.

St. Monica School sought approval for a building which will be used for the pre-kindergarten program and after-school child care. The building will have the capacity to serve 10 pre-K students during school hours and between 15 to 30 after-school students.

Approval to MISD was for the Maintenance Operations and Transportation (MOT) building. According to Shana Crick, the city’s planner on the project, the design commission gave the go-ahead, which means that the district can now apply for a building permit for the project.

The old structure on 86th Avenue was removed in preparation for construction of the PEAK project. MISD plans to build a 2,500-square-foot building adjacent to the Mercer Island High School property to house staff in the MOT department.
