Island Books starts cookbook book club
The Island’s beloved book store is launching a new kind of book club, bringing together people with a love for books, food and good company.
Each month, the store will feature a different cookbook. Near the end of the month, the group will get together to taste the dishes made from it.
More than 25 people attended the first meeting of the Cookbook Book Club on March 22, which featured the Short Stack Editions, a series of small-format cookbooks authored by America’s top culinary talents.
“If you want the perfect example of something we can do that an online retailer can’t, this is it. A festive potluck meal that urges you to go beyond just buying the cookbook. We’re here to nudge you into making the recipes,” according to the store’s blog.
The next meeting is at 7 p.m. on May 18.
The store will host two authors next week: Steve Olson at 4 p.m. on Sunday and Mark Holtzen at 10:30 a.m. on April 13.
Olson is the author of “Eruption: The Untold Story of Mount St. Helens.” In the book, Olson shares the stories of lumber tycoons, loggers, volcanologists and conservationists, interweaving the history and science behind this event, according to the store website.
Holtzen, author of the middle-grade novel “The Pig War,” is a special guest at the Island Books’ weekly Storybook Corner. His new picture book “A Ticket to the Pennant” shows the history of baseball in the Seattle of 1955.
