Student ambassadors depart to France

Sixteen Mercer Island students and three chaperones of this year’s Mercer Island Sister City student exchange departed to Thonon Les Bains, France, on April 11 and will return on April 20. They assembled at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center on April 11 before heading to the airport for their voyage. The students are: Milo Berkley, Ryley Burks, Samantha Campbell, Matthew Duffié, Emily Dunn, Quincey Eskridge, Sabine Fleming, Archer Greenlee, Isabelle Greenlee, Hanna Lassila, Samantha Merritt, Aimee Montpellier, Elan Shapiro, Cordelia Tangeman, Joy Rurangwa and Amy Zhou. The chaperones are: Kirsten Taylor, Jane Meyer Brahm and Agnes Mallet. Their trip will include a visit to the United Nations building in Geneva, Switzerland. A delegation of Thonon Les Bains students will be conducting their return visit to Mercer Island in October 2025. This year’s Island delegation is the most French-fluent group that they’ve ever sent to Thonon Les Bains. Several of the student ambassadors either speak French at home or previously lived in a French-speaking country. Photo courtesy of Suzanne Zahr
