When it rains, I can count on my sports games being cancelled. If the games aren’t, I’m playing in a field of water. This is because the fields on Mercer Island have poor drainage.

The poor drainage affects baseball, football, soccer and lacrosse games played in the fall, winter and spring. This makes this a year-round problem.

The city needs to improve the drainage on the sports fields. I realize that this will cost a lot of money. This could be paid for by raising the user fees.

I think they should fix one or two fields a year, starting with the fields in the worst condition. If this problem is not addressed, the fields will get in worse condition and harder to repair. I don not want to have any more games cancelled due to wet fields.
