A 35-year-old woman saw a white vehicle park in front of her residence at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 23, in the 4200 block of 91st Avenue S.E., adjacent to the high school.
Two male teenagers got out of the vehicle and hid a red duffel bag in some bushes in the woman’s yard.
After they drove away, the woman retrieved the bag and found drugs and smoking pipes inside.
May 19
Accident: A Lexus drove into the side of the South end Rite Aid at 12:40 p.m. at 8441 S.E. 68th Street. The driver, 88, said she mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, while parking. The vehicle was not towed, and there were no injuries.
May 20
Accident: A vehicle backed into a Volvo at 2:10 p.m. after stopping at a stop sign in the lot between QFC and Starbucks in the 8400 block of S.E. 68th Street. The driver, 62, backed up for an open parking spot he had just noticed and did not see the Volvo. He was cited.
May 21
Graffiti: A police officer responded to malicious mischief at 8 a.m. at West Mercer Elementary School in the 4100 block of 81st Avenue S.E. Someone painted graffiti drawings on cement posts and a window frame sometime over the weekend, causing $150 in damages. A black and gold paint pen was used.
Disturbance: A 42-year-old woman reported that the mirror of her ex-husband’s vehicle bumped into her arm as the ex-husband drove away at Island Park Elementary School in the 5400 block of Island Crest Way at 12:40 p.m. Police found no signs of injury, and there was no evidence of purposeful assault.
Vehicle impounded: A Ford truck registered to a Seattle man was impounded at 2:10 p.m. for parking in excess of 72 hours in the 8000 block of S.E. 67th Street.
May 22
Bus sign struck: A Ford pickup entering the I-90 westbound on-ramp at West Mercer Way at 3:55 p.m. spun out of control, went over a curb and knocked a bus sign down. The 50-year-old driver said he thought one of his front tires blew out and caused him to lose control.
Burglary: A North-end residence in the 8400 block of S.E. 37th Street was burglarized sometime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Jewelry was stolen, along with two Macbook computers and an iPad. A silver metal card holder was taken into evidence.
May 23
Theft: A South-end couple had to close their accounts after refinancing their home in February. Someone attempted to order replacement cards, transfer funds and change the address on the couple’s accounts, multiple times, and even after the accounts were closed.
May 24
Arrest: Washington State Patrol arrested a 43-year-old Mercer Island woman at 11 a.m. after stopping her on I-90 for a $1,000 driving with a suspended license warrant.
Stolen items found: An insulated lunch bag and two backpacks containing personal documents were found in the North Mercer park-and-ride upper lot at 10:26 p.m. The owners of the items were victims of recent car prowls. Attempts to contact the owners were unsuccessful.
May 25
Burglaries: A 47-year-old man reported that his bicycle, a blue Santa Cruz Blur, was stolen out of his garage in February in the 3400 block of West Mercer Way. He didn’t immediately report the theft because he thought he could recover the bike without reporting it.
A couple’s home in the 8200 block of S.E. 59th Street was burglarized sometime between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. while the couple was away. The resident discovered that her medication was missing when she returned, and the couple found that the exterior laundry room door was ajar. All other doors had been locked.
DUI: Police contacted the driver of a Honda parked and running on the street at 10:46 p.m. in the 7800 block of S.E. 28th Street. The driver, a 28-year-old Redmond woman, was heavily intoxicated and failed standard sobriety tests. She was arrested at the scene.
May 26
Cash found: An 80-year-old Mercer Island woman found cash on the sidewalk in the 7700 block of S.E. 27th Street at 1 p.m. and brought it to the police station.
Drinking party: A police officer found a young man, 17, passed out near the road in the 2400 block of 60th Avenue S.E. in the area of a large party at 11:51 p.m. The teen, a Renton resident, was highly intoxicated. The officer contacted the teen’s mother, who was out of town, and she gave permission for an adult cousin to pick up the suspect.
May 28
Drugs, dispute: Several 911 open line calls were received from a cell phone in the area of 77th Avenue S.E. and S.E. 27th Street. An officer checking the area noticed a vehicle stopped in the road at 78th Avenue S.E. and S.E. 28th Street. The officer contacted the occupants — an agitated driver and a crying passenger in the middle of a verbal dispute. The officer had the driver exit the vehicle and found marijuana in his possession. The 911 calls had come from these individuals. The driver was arrested, cited and released.
