Tanya Su, Old Friends Club program manager, will speak about “How to be a Dementia Friend” at the Rotary Club of Mercer Island’s meeting on April 15 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St.
The main meeting begins at 12:30 p.m.; socializing is from noon to 12:30 p.m. Guests are always welcome and there is no fee to attend. A catered lunch from Pogacha is available for $25, or attendees can bring their own meal.
This workshop will cover how to be a friend and ally of a person with dementia. The goal of the program is to raise awareness and challenge stigma associated with the topic. It will also highlight a new local resource available for caregivers to get respite.
Su has been deeply involved in the dementia community for several years. She brings with her the lived experience of having two parents with dementia and the passion to serve those around her. In addition to running Old Friends Club at Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, she volunteers her time walking with people with dementia at Woodland Park Zoo and as a Dementia Friends Champion.
