Islander Middle School band director and Mercer Island School District fine arts coordinator David Bentley (donning a W hat) connected with Mercer Island High School band alumni that are part of the University of Washington band at the Sugar Bowl football game in New Orleans on Jan. 1. No. 2-ranked UW (14-0) beat Texas, 37-31, and will battle top-ranked Michigan (14-0) for the national championship on Jan. 8 in Houston.
