I appreciate becoming educated about the Public Records and Open Meetings law by the Coalition for Open Government (with the support of the League of Women Voters and the Seattle Times) last Wednesday right here at our Community Center.
What is the content and the effect of the law? What could State Auditor Sonntag tell of examples from all over the state — whether it might be a fire district or a city council. How should a citizen wishing to invoke a provision of the law go about doing that? And should one be a listener who does not take notes or have total auditory recall, there were printed factual handouts.
I would recommend that citizens who don’t even vote yet learn about the law in their civics/government classes.
