July 12

Suspect tased: Police tased a suspect during an Eastside Narcotics Task Force operation at 10:30 p.m. in the 430 block of S. 4th Place in Renton. The suspect resisted arrest when police served his arrest warrant on him, and the detective had to tase him.

Foundation damage: Someone drove a Bobcat tractor onto the newly poured foundation of a home in the 7200 block of West Ridge Road sometime between 5:30 and 6 p.m. The foundation was scarred, and lumber already laid was chipped and cracked. Tire tracks on the foundation must be buffed out, according to the police report.

July 13

Theft: Someone used a screwdriver to pry a Volkswagen emblem from the back of a Jetta after 9 p.m. in front of a residence in the 4000 block of 91st Avenue S.E., scratching the vehicle’s paint in the process.

July 14

Fraud: An 85-year-old Mercer Island man reported that he wired $17,000 to the Dominican Republic after receiving a call from a scammer who claimed to be “a relative in distress.”

July 15

Fraud: A 57-year-old Mercer Island woman reported that an unknown suspect contacted her bank using her email account and got $40,000 wired to Australia between July 4 and July 6. The woman said her email could have been stolen from an email cafe that she visited in Italy.

July 16

Liquor possession: A boat with a passenger riding on board in an unsafe manner was stopped at 1:40 p.m. off the 8000 block of East Mercer Way. Marine Patrol observed beer and vodka on board in plain sight. The boat operator and a passenger, both 20, admitted consuming alcohol. The operator passed standard field sobriety tests. The owner of the boat, however, said he had not been drinking, though all three young men smelled of intoxicants. There were three counts of minor in possession of liquor cited in the case, and one count of furnishing liquor to minors.

Accident: A 38-year-old Renton man sustained a fractured ankle and back trauma after flipping his motorcycle at 5:25 p.m. in the 6500 block of East Mercer Way. According to the police report, he went off the road after misjudging a bend, and his motorcycle flipped after the front wheel got caught in the soft shoulder. The fire department transported him to Overlake Hospital. The man’s father came to the scene and took possession of the motorcycle by private impound.

Fireworks: Suspects damaged a mailbox with fireworks between 11:15 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of 91st Avenue S.E. The mailbox contained mail.

July 17

Explosives: A locked mailbox was damaged by explosives in the 7700 block of 81st Place S.E. sometime after July 15. The explosion separated the door from the unit. Orange residue was found inside the mailbox.

Accident: A 77-year-old man lost control of his vehicle after mixing up the gas pedal and brake while backing up as he attempted to turn around in a driveway at 11:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of West Mercer Way. He backed around an automatic gate, into brush, then ran over a cement light fixture, became high-centered and struck a boulder. No injuries were reported.

July 18

Bike theft: Someone stole a children’s Trek bicycle out of a carport in the 2400 block of 71st Avenue S.E. after 5 p.m. The bike was later found abandoned in the front yard.

July 19

Graffiti: A Renton man reported graffiti in the men’s restroom at Luther Burbank Park. The damages totaled $250.

Assault: An 18-year-old Seattle resident got into a fight with his brother during an argument at their parents’ home on Mercer Island. The victim was injured. After being arrested at 8:59 p.m., the suspect was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

July 20

Liquor violation: Four male teenagers were cited for liquor possession at Groveland Beach in the 5700 block of 80th Avenue S.E. after midnight. Nearby residents heard the teens and suspected they were peering into windows. The group was huddled on the dock around a cooler that contained beer and vodka.
