Get ready to run
The 37th annual Mercer Island Rotary Run is this Sunday, March 22. Race headquarters are at the Community Center at Mercer View. Online registration remains open through March 20. The walkers will start at 7:30 a.m. The Half Mile Kid’s Dash is at 8:30 a.m., the 10k run at 8:45 a.m. and the main event, the Half Marathon, begins at 9 a.m. The 5k run and walk follows at 9:30 a.m. For more information about registration, activities the night before and the day of, and a map of the race course and street closures: 236-5323, ext. 1920, www.mercerislandhalf.com. Not just for teens
An AARP Driver Safety Program is 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on March 24 and 31 at the Stroum Jewish Community Center, 3801 East Mercer Way. The class is for adults ages 50 and up and is to improve driving skills. Completion of the class can qualify drivers for an insurance discount. The cost is $14 or $12 for AARP members. Tax help
IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers are holding a “Super Saturday” from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., March 21, statewide and in Western Washington to provide free tax help. There are four locations in Bellevue and several in Seattle. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance sites and AARP Tax Aide sites will also be open. For locations and information go to IRS.gov with the key word ‘Super Saturday.’ People without computer access can call 1-800-906-9887 to find a nearby IRS or partner office. IRS customer service telephone lines, 1-800-829-1040, will also be available on Super Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to answer tax questions.
