Art UnCorked
78th Avenue S.E. by the Sculpture Park will be closed off for the rest of the day as event coordinators prepare for Art UnCorked, an evening of art, music, food and wine tasting in the Town Center.
If you don’t have tickets already, buy them for $30 at the door. The event is from 6-9 p.m., with a VIP ‘Meet the Winemaker’ hour from 5-6 p.m. (for which tickets cost $5 more).
A dozen Washington state wineries and two hard cider makers will be pouring two or more of their wines or ciders under tents along 78th Street and Sunset Highway, while juried artists will be displaying their unique mix of fine handmade artworks. Wines poured will be available for purchase at a 10 percent discount.
Round the Rock
The 13-mile standup paddle race around Mercer Island, now in its seventh year, is a non-profit event that raises funds for Athletes for Cancer. The event starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Newcastle Beach Park.
Volunteers are still needed. If you want to assist with the water safety flotilla, please send an email to jeff@roundtherock.com. There is a safety briefing at 8:30 a.m. offshore of Newcastle Beach Park in Bellevue. A $100 fuel stipend will be provided for every vessel.

Donate canned foods, packaged goods, grains, toiletries, checks or other items in your neighborhood or at the booth outside the North End QFC this Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
All items are given to families living on Mercer Island.
Planks in the Park
The Dailey Method is hosting a free community event called Planks in the Park, open to all ages and fitness levels, on Saturday from 9-10 a.m. The goal is to fill the park, said studio owner Brenda Henke.
It will be a 60 minute-barre exercise class, held at Mercerdale Park. Bring a mat and a water bottle and enjoy a live DJ. There will be no other classes at the Dailey Method that day. Register at the Dailey Method’s website.
