The first total solar eclipse to cross the United States in 99 years wowed groups of spectators across Mercer Island on Monday morning.
At Luther Burbank Park, groups sat back in lawn chairs and donned sunglasses as they watched a black circle replace the sun.
The eclipse coincided with a group science curriculum training for Mercer Island K-5 teachers at Island Park Elementary, who used the time to watch the eclipse along with new Superintendent Donna Colosky and Assistant Superintendent Fred Rundle.
At Covenant Shores, residents also caught a glimpse of the rare coast-to-coast event.
