The blotter consists of officers’ accounts of crimes and other incidents in Mercer Island. Persons arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Nov. 24
THEFT: A suspect was discovered in a stolen vehicle in the 8100 block of W. Mercer Way at 4:10 a.m., and arrested and booked on outstanding warrants. The vehicle was towed to the Mercer Island Police Department’s sally port, pending a search warrant.
Nov. 28
DEATH INVESTIGATION: A subject died of natural causes in the 5400 block of E. Mercer Way at 1:17 p.m. The medical examiner came to the scene, performed an examination and released the victim to the family at that location.
Nov. 30
HIT AND RUN: A bank of mailboxes and two individual mailboxes were reported damaged in the 3600 block of 72nd Place SE at 12:54 p.m. The boxes are located on a sharp corner, and tire tracks indicated that a large vehicle couldn’t make the corner, and pushed them over.
BURGLARY: A victim reported a table and two chairs missing from a room downstairs in the 8000 block of W. Mercer Way at 3:58 p.m. She found a window open next to the downstairs door. She suspects it was her husband. They are divorcing and she has a restraining order against him.
MORE BURGLARY: A home in the 7100 block of E. Mercer Way was burglarized some time between noon and 2 p.m. Several laptop computers were taken, as well as passports.
ASSAULT: A suspect was confronted in the Shorewood area by a maintenance worker, who told him he should not be in Shorewood. The suspect punched the worker in the face and ran away. The incident was reported in the 9000 block of E. Shorewood Drive at 10:27 p.m.
Dec. 2
TRAFFIC: A vehicle was stopped for equipment violations in the 3800 block of E. Mercer Way at 3:28 p.m. The driver wasn’t licensed, and was found to have a suspended status. A handgun was seen in plain view in their purse. The driver was arrested for a traffic offense, and the vehicle was impounded for a search warrant, as the driver was a convicted felon.
DUI: A car was reported driving west in the eastbound lanes of Southeast 40th Avenue Street at 11:25 p.m. When police arrived, the vehicle was parked against traffic in the eastbound lanes. The driver smelled of liquor, according to police, and showed physical signs of impairment. Her 7-year-old son was in the vehicle. The suspect refused breath samples, and was transported to Overlake Hospital, where MIPD obtained an electronic DUI warrant for a blood sample. The suspect was released to her mother at the Mercer Island Police Department.

THEFT: A suspect stole electronics from a store in the 3000 block of 78th Ave. SE at 7:03 p.m. and exited without paying, for a loss of $209.99.
