Vandals recently started a fire within the concrete train and graffitied the inside of the play structure at the Mercerdale Park playground. The train and the playground’s soft ground surfacing were damaged, according to the city.

Crews are partnering with the playground manufacturer to repair the damage and the Mercer Island Police Department is investigating the incident.

“The train structure may be temporarily closed at certain times while repairs are being made. The adjacent ‘cone spinner’ play structure is also closed; however, this is for an unrelated warranty repair,” the city said.
