This month, the city is scheduled to commence an Island-wide replacement project to deploy 7,900 new water meters in the residential and commercial realms in its utility system.
“Many of the Island’s water meters are past their useful life, which hampers leak detection efforts and results in higher water loss,” the city noted on its Let’s Talk page.
The meter replacement schedule is determined by water billing cycle and meter reading routes, and residents can view a map of the projected installation timeline at: https://tinyurl.com/yf9mx7tk
According to the city, Pedal Valves Inc. (PVI) technicians will place a door hanger at each property approximately two weeks ahead of installation and will attempt to contact each customer immediately before the installation. If the technician is unable to contact the customer and water is in use, the installation will be delayed until a later time or day.
Each installation will take about 30 minutes, and the property’s water usage may be interrupted for up to 20 minutes. The technician will leave a doorhanger indicating that the installation is complete, or letting the customer know that additional work is required.
