Interstate 90 travelers should plan for overnight lane closures through Mercer Island due to construction activities tonight and tomorrow night.

Crews working for the Department of Transportation and Sound Transit are adding HOV lanes to the I-90 outer roadway between Mercer Island and Bellevue. They are also building new I-90 HOV on- and off-ramps on Mercer Island and improving I-90 HOV access at Bellevue Way.

Crews will close up to two left lanes of westbound I-90, from Bellevue Way to the East Channel Bridge, four nights this week, which began Monday and continues through tomorrow. Each night, the first lane will close at 9 p.m. and the second lane will close at 11 p.m. Both lanes will reopen by 5 a.m., the following morning. During the closure, crews will place overhead signs.

Crews are also scheduled to close a single lane on the on-ramp from southbound Bellevue Way to westbound I-90 each night from Monday through Thursday. The lane will close at 9 p.m. each night and will reopen by 5 a.m., the following morning. Crews will perform electrical work during these closures.

During the past two nights, crews were scheduled to close the center roadway between Bellevue Way and Rainier Avenue to perform electrical work.
