Nov. 9
Forgery: A check for $1,365.70 was written in Spokane with a 50-year-old Mercer Island woman’s routing and account numbers. The check’s other information was false.
Arrest: A Des Moines man was arrested at 9:33 p.m. in the 6000 block of westbound I-90 after running a stop sign at North Mercer Way and 76th Avenue S.E. He was driving with a suspended license and had an expired Washington ID card from 1997. The vehicle was picked up by the registered owner, and the driver was cited and released at the MIPD.
Forgery: A Mercer Island woman, 71, reported at 3:50 p.m. that an unknown suspect used her credit union account to cash a check for $1,079 on Sept. 4. It was processed by the credit union on Oct. 4.
Nov. 10
Fender-bender: A vehicle driven by a Renton woman was rear-ended at 10:41 a.m. on Island Crest Way when it stopped for a truck waiting to turn left onto Parkside Lane.
Car prowl: A sharp object was used to shatter the passenger side window of a Honda minivan overnight in a Mercer Island woman’s driveway in the 2200 block of 81st Avenue S.E. The woman had not moved the van since Nov. 8. No items were reported missing.
Car prowl: The passenger side window of an Infiniti vehicle was broken overnight in the 2200 block of 78th Avenue S.E. A Compaq laptop was stolen with its case.
Car prowl: The window of a Nissan Pathfinder was smashed overnight in the 2200 block of 78th Avenue S.E. No items were reported missing.
Car prowl: A Seattle woman, 56, reported at 11:06 a.m. that her vehicle, a Chrysler, was broken into while parked at the residence of a client between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., Nov. 4, in the 2400 block of 63rd Avenue S.E. The rear passenger window was broken, but no items were missing.
Car prowl: Two vehicles, a Honda Accord and a Lexus, were prowled overnight between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. in the 2200 block of 77th Avenue S.E. One of the vehicles belonged to the victim’s employer. The driver side windows in both vehicles were broken.
Arrest: A vehicle with expired tabs from June 2009 was stopped in the 7600 block of westbound I-90, and the driver, a 35-year-old Federal Way man, was arrested at 4:38 p.m. Police saw marijuana stems in the door panel and found a marijuana pipe and bag of marijuana after searching the vehicle with the driver’s consent. The man, who was also driving with a suspended license and had two FTAs on record, signed a waiver of impound and was cited and released at the MIPD.
Nov. 11
Arrest: A vehicle with expired tabs from December 2006 was stopped in the 4000 block of Island Crest Way. The driver, a 50-year-old Seattle woman, was arrested at 9:54 p.m. She had a suspended license with five FTAs on record. After signing an impound waiver for the vehicle to remain at the scene, the woman was cited and released at the MIPD.
Nov. 12
Car prowl: A Garmin GPS unit, radar detector and CD player were stolen from a Mercer Island woman’s unlocked vehicle, an Acura Integra, in the 6900 block of S.E. 33rd Street. The theft, which was reported at 8:34 a.m., occurred sometime between Nov. 6 and Nov. 8. The loss totaled $300.
Laptop theft: The theft of a Macbook laptop out of an Islander Middle School classroom was reported at 9:23 a.m. The laptop was noticeably missing from the classroom 10 days prior, and attempts to locate it were unsuccessful.
Arrest: Police stopped a speeding vehicle driving left of the center line in the 3800 block of East Mercer Way. The driver, a 70-year-old Mercer Island man, was arrested and taken to the MIPD at 2:30 p.m. He was driving with a suspended license and two FTAs on record. After being cited, he was released.
Nov. 13
Rollover accident: A vehicle rolled onto its side 10 feet off of West Mercer Way in the 7600 block. The fire department removed the driver, a 51-year-old Mercer Island woman, from the vehicle. The woman, who was noticeably under the influence of alcohol or drugs, was arrested at 10:55 p.m. after she failed standard field sobriety tests and blew a .240 PBT. She refused aid, saying she was not harmed.
Arrest: Police were dispatched to assist the fire department with an intoxicated juvenile male, who said he had consumed several beers. The teen, 17, was arrested at 11:47 p.m. in the 7300 block of S.E. 24th Street and was taken to the MIPD, where his parents later picked him up.
Nov. 14
ICW/Merrimount accident: A collision occurred in the northbound lanes of the 4400 block of Island Crest Way at 4:30 p.m. after a 73-year-old Mercer Island woman swerved to avoid hitting an unknown vehicle that had made an illegal turn from the westbound turn lane into oncoming southbound traffic. The woman had turned onto northbound ICW from Merrimount Drive, swerved, and struck another vehicle driven by an 18-year-old Mercer Island male. The unknown vehicle disappeared down a residential driveway. There were no injuries.
Nov. 15
Fender-bender: A Bellevue driver rear-ended a vehicle that was stopped on S.E. 40th Street as he was looking down at his cell phone, not realizing that his vehicle was moving forward, at 2:15 p.m. The other vehicle was waiting to make a left turn onto 86th Avenue S.E. The other driver, a Mercer Island man, reported that his neck felt “tight” afterward.
Nov. 16
Cash, checks stolen: The director of Youth Theatre Northwest reported at 11:21 a.m. that an envelope with checks and $100 in cash was stolen from the theater sometime during the weekend of Nov. 13.
Arrest: A Renton male, 18, was arrested for a Renton warrant at 12:15 p.m. in the 8600 block of North Mercer Way. He was driving with a suspended license. Police were not able to verify the vehicle’s current owner and status.
Car prowl: The front passenger window of a vehicle was smashed out in the 4000 block of 90th Avenue S.E. sometime between the evening of Nov. 15 and 3:30 p.m., Nov. 16. The vehicle, a Mazda, was parked in front of the victim’s residence on a city street. An unknown suspect stole the stereo, worth $80, out of the dash. The estimated damage to the vehicle was $200.
Car prowl: The rear window of a Mercer Island man’s vehicle was shattered overnight in the 9700 block of S.E. 40th Street. A bag containing clothes was stolen, and the total loss was $500. The victim reported the damage after discovering it at 6:35 a.m.
Car prowl: The vehicle of a Mercer Island woman, 58, was prowled overnight and the woman’s purse was found along the road at 7:46 a.m. in the 4000 block of 83rd Avenue S.E. After the purse’s owner, a resident of 90th Avenue S.E., was identified through an investigation, the purse and a vehicle emergency kit were returned to her. Her driver’s license and credit cards had been stolen out of the wallet.
