Harassment: A Mercer Island man, 28, who plays basketball in a Stroum JCC league was harassed after a game by an angry opponent who made threats to injure, kill and start a fight.
Nov. 17
Gift card theft: Seven gift cards were fraudulently loaded at a store register in the 7800 block of S.E. 28th Street. The suspect, a 22-year-old Federal Way man, subsequently stole the gift cards and was arrested. The total loss was $685. The suspect was processed and released, and MICC 94502 was issued.
Missing lockbox: A Mercer Island man, 86, reported at 1:13 p.m. that a small lockbox was missing from his apartment on Fortuna Drive. The box contained documents and special coins.
Arrest: A Mercer Island woman, 45, was arrested at 2:55 p.m. for assault in the courtroom. The woman hit her estranged husband during a recess of trial for a prior assault between the man and his son. Evidence, in addition to witnesses, included a surveillance video of the courtroom.
Oil leak: A vehicle’s oil pan was punctured after the driver made a left turn from East Mercer Way onto S.E. 36th Street and drove onto the road island divider at 5 a.m. The driver, a resident of China, had been looking at his navigation system. All of the car’s oil leaked out. The vehicle was towed from the scene with one flat front tire.
Nov. 18
Theft: An Apple iPad was stolen with a laptop zip cover from the upstairs bedroom of a residence in the 8400 block of North Mercer Way sometime between Nov. 3 and Nov. 13. The theft was reported at 12:55 p.m.
Drugs: Police responded to a report of drug activity and stopped a vehicle via a “Terry stop” in the 3600 block of 80th Avenue S.E. A witness had provided information about the vehicle, which was leaving from a residence where drug sales were suspected to have taken place. Two 16-year-old girls were arrested at 4:39 p.m. and 4:51 p.m. The driver had marijuana, and the passenger admitted she had organized the deal and bought the marijuana for the driver. The vehicle was impounded. The girls were later released from the MIPD.
Accident: A collision occurred when a vehicle turned westbound onto S.E. 40th Street from Gallagher Hill Road and attempted to pass a stopped car in the 9000 block at 5:04 p.m. The car had stopped for a bus and was struck on its right side. There were no injuries.
Nov. 19
Arrest: A Lake Forest Park man, 28, was arrested at 4:55 a.m. at Beardslee Road and I-405. He was booked into the Issaquah Jail after he was turned over to the MIPD by Lake Forest Park police for a Mercer Island warrant.
Lost wallet: An Issaquah man, 39, lost his wallet around 2 p.m. somewhere between I-90 and the Chevron station on Sunset Highway. He remembered leaving the station after placing his wallet on the roof of his vehicle.
Arrest: A vehicle with expired tabs was stopped in the 1800 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. The vehicle’s plate was also linked to a warrant. The driver, a 22-year-old Mercer Island man, was identified as the warrant subject and was arrested at 4:03 p.m. A friend of the driver took custody of the vehicle, a Cadillac, at the scene while the driver was transferred into Seattle Police Department custody. The amount of bail for the warrant was $5,000.
Bicycle theft: A resident in the 7600 block of S.E. 27th Street reported at 4:09 p.m. that his bicycle was stolen sometime after Nov. 12. His bike lock had been cut.
Nov. 20
Arrest: A Bellevue woman, 21, was arrested at 12:10 a.m. by the Washington State Patrol for a misdemeanor warrant and was booked into the Issaquah Jail.
Missing cash: Cash was reported missing at 11:24 a.m. by an 87-year-old resident of Fortuna Drive. The cash had been kept in a small safe in a bedroom closet.
Nov. 21
DUI: After a vehicle was stopped for a traffic offense, the driver — a 31-year-old Lacey man — was arrested at 3 a.m. in the 3200 block of 81st Place S.E. He failed standard field sobriety tests and was released after being processed.
Mail theft: Stolen mail was found two driveways north of the victim’s residence in the 2200 block of 70th Avenue S.E. Some of the items, which were junk mail, also belonged to a neighbor.
Missing purse: The purse of a Mercer Island woman, 44, was reported missing at 1:09 p.m. It was either lost or stolen from a friend’s unlocked car, an Infiniti, while the two were at Club Emerald.
Fraud: A Mercer Island woman’s Social Security number was used to open several accounts in the Northeast, starting in 2004. Among the accounts were two credit cards and a mortgage in Buffalo, N.Y. No account payments were late, and the accounts were not delinquent. The fraud, reported at 3:26 p.m., was discovered when the victim applied for home refinancing at her bank, and the bank printed her credit score.
Nov. 22
Fraud: Walmart notified a Mercer Island man, 85, that an attempt had been made to purchase items online with his credit card. The man reported the fraud at 12:49 p.m. and cancelled the card. There were no other charges.
Nov. 23
Traffic hazard: Police found two vehicles hazardously parked on a curve in the southbound lane of West Mercer Way in the 4100 block at 8:04 a.m. in below freezing temperatures. Police contacted one owner but were unable to contact the other. Both vehicles were towed from the location.
