The Northwest Yeshiva boys and girls basketball teams both enjoyed one of their best seasons in the history of the school.
The girls team finished the regular season with a record of 14-6 and won the league championship. The team won its final regular season game against the Washington Patriots junior varsity team, 67-43.
The team went on to win one playoff game.
“In the 10 years I have been here, this is the best team I have ever had,” said coach Jed Davis. “I think they broke every record we have.”
The girls team was led by Orlie Golan, who won the league’s Most Valuable Player award and averaged 20 points a game. That average was sixth in Washington state with a total of 460 points. Her biggest game of the year came against the Ballard C team, as the 5-foot-5-inch senior scored 36 points and over 20 points 10 times.
Three other players captured first team all-league honors.
“I wish we made it to Yakima to play at state, but they did really well,” said Davis. “We started three freshmen.”
Yeshiva freshmen Milana Davydov — who was the third highest scorer in Washington with 11.8 points per game — and Julia Owen, who was seventh with 6.7 points per game, make for a bright future for the program. The 5-foot-7-inch Davydov scored over 20 points twice in a game. Owen had a season-high of 16 points against Puget Sound Adventist.
The Yeshiva boys team finished with a record of 12-7 and made it to the district tournament for the first time since 2005. The team ended the regular season by beating the Patriots, 68-64.
“They are a 2A team, and we are a 1B,” said Davis. “It was one of the greatest wins in the program’s history.”
The team was led by senior Nathan Krohn, who averaged 25.1 points per game, the second highest in Washington state this year, with a total of 401 points. Krohn’s biggest game of the season came against Grace Academy, scoring 36 points.
Teammate Rafi Kintzer was the sixth highest scorer in the state with an average of 10.4 points per game.
“Both teams were ranked in the AP top 10 this season,” said Davis.
