Albert Leon Levinski

Albert Leon Levinski, the second son of Henry Cleveland Levinski and Marie Cecilia Kern Levinski, was born on December 6, 1923 in Butte, Montana. Brother Henry, Jr. was nineteen months older than Albert. His father, Henry, a prosecuting attorney and Marie a musician and music teacher decided to move their family to Seattle, Washington in 1931 and first resided in the Montlake neighborhood. Albert attended Garfield High School as a freshman and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1940 after the family moved to Laurelhurst. The attack on Pearl Harbor occurred the day following Albert’s eighteenth birthday. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was sent to Dallas, Texas for his Cadet flight training. After nine months of training, Albert was sent to the South Pacific. He flew troop carriers in Australia, the Philippines, and New Guinea during WWII. Albert enjoyed his time in the Army Air Corps and he continued his military career in the Air Force Reserve until he retired as a full bird Colonel in 1983. After the war, Albert returned to Seattle, and graduated from the University of Washington School of Law in 1949 and was admitted to the Washington State Bar in 1950. He joined his father’s law practice, then known as Levinski and Levinski, in the Smith Tower. After his fathers’ retirement, Albert moved his law practice and was one of the first tenants in Pacific Building in 1971. He practiced personal injury, divorce, and probate law. He retired in 1995. Albert met his wife Mary Jo Wintermote, a nursing student at the University of Washington, on a blind date. He impressed her with his napkin tricks, magic and sense of humor. They were married on May 8, 1954 at the Mt. Baker Presbyterian Church in Seattle, Washington. They built their first home in the Eastlake neighborhood of Mercer Island in 1955. Their three daughters, Debra, Carolyn and Janet were raised on Mercer Island. They built another home in the Allview Heights area of Mercer Island in 1963. In 1973, they purchased an existing waterfront home in the Roanoke neighborhood. Albert lived in this home until 2010, at which time he moved to the Timber Ridge community in Issaquah, Washington. Albert and Mary Jo loved to go skiing, and they made many trips family trips to Sun Valley. He was an avid tennis player at the Mercer Island Country Club and also enjoyed playing golf. Albert loved duck and pheasant hunting. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited. Albert also loved to sail his Cal 34 sailboat, although he was often found with the sails down and salmon fishing from the back of the boat in the summer. Albert and Mary Jo spent many weekends sailing to the ports in and around Puget Sound. Their favorite weekend getaway was Poulsbo, and they always took their three teacup poodles with them. Albert has long been a member of the Seattle Yacht Club and was proud to have gained Lifetime Member status last year. Albert and Mary Jo loved Hawaii. They spent many springs vacationing in Ka’anapali Beach on Maui. After Mary Jo’s death from lung cancer on September 28, 1987, Albert continued his yearly trips to Ka’anapali with his daughters and grandchildren. Albert loved to travel and he enjoyed making friends wherever he went. He cruised the Panama Canal twice and the Danube once. He traveled throughout Europe, Australia and Tasmania. He also enjoyed traveling around the United States. He had a winter home at the Bermuda Dunes Golf Course in Palm Springs. Albert had a great sense of humor and he loved to have fun. He loved to tell jokes or stories to entertain his friends and family. Albert loved to be the center of attention at every family gathering or party he attended. Albert died on May 4, 2011 after a short illness. His parents, Henry and Marie, his brother, Henry Jr. and his beloved wife, Mary Jo, preceded him in death. He is survived by his three daughters, Debra Green of Redmond, Washington, Carolyn (Michael) Mustello of Clarkston, Washington and Janet (Enrique) Levinski Huerta, Bellevue, Washington. Five grandchildren, Margeaux and Ryan Green, Courtney and Tori Mustello and Cecilia Huerta, also survive him. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara Levinski, Mercer Island, a niece, Jeanne (Russ) Lowman, Bothell, Washington and grandnephew, Scottt (Jamie) Lowman, Seattle, Washington, and grandniece, Blair Lowman, Bothell, Washington. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 28 at 11:00 am at Timber Ridge, 100 Timber Ridge Way NW, Issaquah, WA 98027. The inurnment will follow on the same day at 3:00 pm with a Military Color Guard at Acacia Memorial Park, 14951 Bothell Way Northeast, Seattle, Washington 98155.
