Andriene Hovde Lewis | Obituary

Andriene Hovde Lewis (Andi) slipped away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Andi was a devoted Christian, proud Cougar, community servant, sports fan, adoring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and loving wife. She was a friend to many. Andi was born in Billings, Montana to Andre and Doris Hovde. She grew up in the Great Depression era, one of four siblings. Her loud, boisterous Norwegian family was filled with laughter and love. Andi graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Radio Speech.

She landed a job at KMO radio station in Tacoma, WA. She was their music librarian, copy writer and most notably known as “Sue” on the daily program “Personal Choice.” Andi married Robert (Bob) Lewis in 1949. Together they raised their five children, spending several years in Tacoma, WA and Ventura, CA before returning to Mercer Island, WA.

Andi was known by all as uniquely spirited; a fun loving and positive light. She was a willing volunteer holding leadership roles in PTA, church organizations, Mercer Island Youth & Family Services and Episcopal Community Action/ Diocese of Olympia, among others. Of no small consequence was her love and devotion to the people of Emmanuel Episcopal Church. They were truly her spiritual family. In 1972, a new door opened when she was “called to serve” at Temple B’Nai Torah where she continued her devotion until retiring in 2002. Andi deeply loved her Temple family. One of her fondest memories was traveling to Israel on an interfaith journey in the company of her priest and her rabbi.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her son Bobby, her parents and siblings. She leaves behind her daughters Kyle Robson (Fred), Shaun George (Bill), Kym Shepherd (Mark), and Andriene Sterlington (Phil), 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

It has proven difficult to sum up the essence of our mother’s life. She was a loving dedicated servant. She left this world as she lived in it – with grace, dignity, gentleness and peace. Rest In Peace our dear sweet Mom, Gramma, and GG. May her memory be a blessing.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 9 at 2:00 PM at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Mercer Island, WA.
