Audrey Stubner | Obituary

February 1, 1928- June 16, 2024

Audrey left this world peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the age of 96. Born in Chicago on February 1,1928 she was raised in Oak Park and attended college at Ward-Belmont (now Belmont University) in Nashville. She married Jim Stubner in 1953 and they had five children, all while crisscrossing the country with the Bell Systems. They finally settled back on Mercer Island in 1972 where she remained until 2021.

Married to Jim for 61 years, she loved nothing more than her family, traveling, a good book and a mocha with whip. Having a full house and entertaining family and friends brought her great joy. She often could be found playing bridge, tennis and volunteering. Her journey in volunteering began at the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago and continued throughout her life at numerous organizations benefiting children and the arts, most recently The Ryther Group and The Seattle Symphony.

A proud Chicago gal through and through, Audrey was sharp, quick witted, and a street smart “fixer” with a sense of humor. She was cool under pressure and the consummate listener, always asking the right questions, to the point where her son Jamie said she would have made a great attorney. She leaves a huge void and will be truly missed.

Audrey leaves behind her five children and their spouses Jamie and Celeste Stubner, Todd and Sheryl Stubner, Carl and Dana Stubner, Erica Stubner Robinson, and Amy and Erik Hoins. She adored her grandchildren, their spouses and great grandchildren: Caitlin & Mike Harris; Carly, Brad and Wellesley Bissell; Jamie, Amy and Caleb Robinson; Max Stubner; Jackson, Morgan and Knox Stubner; Ursula Hoins; and Roman Stubner. Audrey’s family will celebrate her life in a private gathering.
