Azaria Rousso | Obituary

March 30, 1930- July 12, 2024

Azaria Rousso – born 03/30/1930 – passed away peacefully at his group home on Mercer Island. He was the seventh of nine siblings born at home to Victoria and Nessim Rousso. They lived in an old two story home with 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom in Seattle’s Central District.

Azaria, (AKA Ozzy) attended Horace Mann Middle School and Garfield High School. He then earned a degree in architecture from the University of Washington class of 1954. He practiced architecture for 40 years. Many of the buildings he designed; both commercial and residential are still standing. In 1968, he received a National AIA award of merit for a house he designed on Bainbridge Island.

Ozzy started working at a very young age selling flowers and magazines on the streets of downtown Seattle. His many jobs included being a bus boy, soda jerk, grocery clerk, flower delivery, drafts person and a bus and trackless trolley driver. He also spent 8 years as an aviation ordnanceman in the US Naval Reserve started at age 17 years old. He rode on as many flights as possible on a variety of WW II aircraft.

Ozzy enjoyed running, bicycling, swimming and hiking. He completed the Seattle triathlon at the age of 58 years old and his last half-a-marathon at the age of 65. Ozzy and his wife of 69 years took many bicycle trips in the area and also brought their bikes to Europe for trips in Austria and Denmark in 2005.

Ozzy is survived by his wife, Saundra Hollander and his daughters Kathryn, Pamela and RaeAnne. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Sara, Michael and Joshua Levine and Charlie Rousso along with his 5 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and his sisters Mimi DeBurle and Esther Holcenberg.
