Barbara Ford
Barbara Ford, 91, passed away peacefully at Covenant Shores Health Center on June 12, 2014. Barbie’s death was preceded by her husband William B. Ford (1990) and her daughter Elizabeth Lee Ford McKinley (2013).
Barbie, was born November 19, 1922 in Waltham, Massachusetts. She attended Colby Jr. College in New Hampshire and graduated from Boston University with BA in Education.
In 1948 she married her square dancing partner, and friend William B. Ford. In 1959 they packed up the three kids in the station wagon, tied the sailboat to the top, and drove across the country to begin a new life on Mercer Island where she has resided ever since.
Barbie loved exploring and traveling the world with friends, watching Shakespeare plays, and attending the Opera. She also loved the solitude of a good book and peaceful afternoons sitting on her porch. Her love for the water and passion for sailing lives on strongly in her children and grandchildren. As a master gardener, Barbie loved walking through the forest, planting in the garden, and tending to Mother Nature. Barbie was a faithful servant at Emmanuel Episcopal Church for the past 55 years. She loved The Lord and is now at home with Him.
Barbie loved deeply, lived joyfully, and gave generously. Her legacy will live on in her children Bruce Ford, Ann Ford, her nine grandchildren and her 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Mercer Island on June 28, 2014.
