Clare Edith Lashley Marshall, a long-time resident of Mercer Island until April 2007, died on Jan. 12, her father’s birthday, at Brighton Gardens in Bellevue. She was born on Nov. 9, 1920 in Montreal, Canada, to Richard and Pauline Lashley.
In February of 1941, Clare married Clyde Charles Wilton Marshall in Ottawa, Ontario. During their 63 years of marriage, they were blessed with five children.
Mrs. Marshall was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and volunteer. She supported Clyde in all his pursuits. She enjoyed living in her Mercer Island home for 40 years and traveling during retirement, which included wintering in Mesa, Ariz. Mrs. Marshall had a rich life that revolved around her family. Being a devout Catholic, she was known for her kindness and for her positive interest in others’ lives. She is deeply missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Marshall was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde (May 23, 2004); two sisters, Jean and Irene; and two brothers, Robert and Richard. She is survived by her children, Jeanie (Ron), of Kirkland; Richard (Janice), of Bellevue; Joan (Mike), of Bellevue; Judi (Rex), of Bremerton; and Janet (Roderick), of Bellevue; grandchildren, Sonia, Shawn, Jennifer, Scott, Robert, Seth, Jaime, Danielle, Rich, Crystal, Trevor, Erica and Jacqueline; 10 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Bill (Elemae), who resides in Ottawa, Canada.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial and a celebration of Mrs. Marshall’s life at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 22, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church, 4301 88th Ave. S.E., www.stmonica.cc. In August 1990, at almost 50 years of marriage, Clare and Clyde celebrated the renewal of their wedding vows at St. Monica.
