Clematis H. “Honey” Sitter
Clematis H. “Honey” Sitter, 79, of Monona, left us peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2011, at HospiceCare. She was born October 9, 1932, the daughter of Thomas and Catherine Francis, in Newport, R. I. She was the eldest of three children. Honey was a graduate of Boston University where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education, this was the beginning of a lifelong passion for learning and teaching. Honey was married to Troy Gordon Sitter on September 17, 1955, and they enjoyed 39 years together. They had one daughter, Tory, who was the joy of their life. Honey’s unwavering devotion to family, faith and teaching are defining characteristics of her life. Honey’s passion for teaching touched many. She taught at parochial schools in Mercer Island, WA, Arlington, VA and Cedar Rapids, IA. Her personal attention to each child and tireless efforts to help them learn were hallmarks of her career. Honey and Troy retired in Crystal River, FL. She was as an active member of the reserves at the Coast Guard Yankeetown station.
Honey is survived by her daughter, Tory (Jeff) Pomeroy; and grandchildren, Aaron and Hannah Pomeroy of Cottage Grove. She is survived by many nieces and nephews; Kevin Sitter of Minneapolis, MN., with whom she had a very close relationship and was a great comfort to her in her later years. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Troy; brother, Thomas Francis; and sister, Marianne Adams. We will honor and celebrate her life with a Memorial Service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at Gunderson East Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, with the Rev. Dietrich Gruen presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral home. The family extends their sincere appreciation to HospiceCare for the exceptional care and comfort they provided Honey.
