Dave Harvey
1934-2010
Dave Harvey, beloved father, grandfather, husband and friend, died on Mercer Island, October l2, 2010. Born in Indiana, Dave spent his childhood in Phoenix. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1969 as a mechanical engineer. He worked for the U.S. Government’s NOAA, GSA; for Boeing; and the Port of Seattle. Dave’s passion for flying launched hobbies he pursued ardently, building model planes. He shared this love with his children. Dave served as a docent for the Museum of Flight. His curiosity took him to travel Europe, Asia, North Africa and Latin America. He celebrated his 72nd birthday in Egypt, a life-long dream. Weeks before his health declined, he swam with stingrays in Grand Cayman. Dave also dedicated time to woodworking, building for Mercer Island Covenant Church and friends. Dave was a Mason. He loved to watch hummingbirds that flocked to his garden. Quick to smile and to easy to laugh, he loved to play bridge and to tell or hear a good joke. Friends and family, who came to visit him at Sunrise of Mercer Island, where he lived in recent months, remarked on his unfailing kindness and great sense of humor. Dave is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children: Sheryl, (Ed) Beverly and granddaughter Jessica; Scott (Elaine), and Steve. He is also mourned by his DeYoung stepchildren and their families, Deborah (David Carle); Dan (Laurie) and grandson, Derek; and David (Angela) and grandchildren Jacob, Jessica and Jada, and by many friends. A memorial service is planned for November 13 at noon at Mercer Island Covenant Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Museum of Flight in Seattle or MI Covenant Church.
