Doris Matilda Adcock
Doris Matilda Adcock, 95, of Mercer Island, WA passed away on March 16, 2012. She was born in Boston to Charles and Tekla Rhoden on December 5, 1916, and raised in Timber Lake, SD with eight brothers and sisters where she became school teacher in a one-room schoolhouse. During WWII she moved to Seattle to help in the war effort and then served in the South Pacific as a member of The Women’s Air Corp developing surveillance videos. Her brothers and sisters joined her, sharing a house in the U District, and also served during the war. She met her husband, Will, hiking, climbing, skiing and folk dancing as members of The Mountaineers. With her husband she hand built a home and raised their family on Mercer Island while teaching at Eastgate Elementary. Doris is predeceased by her husband Will who passed away in 2000. She is survived by two sons, William (Cheryl) Adcock and James (Anne Otten) Adcock and three grandchildren, Charles Adcock, Stephanie Adcock, and Christiane Adcock.
