Elizabeth “Beth” Ann Nielsen died on April 25, 2023, from cancer. Born September 19, 1950, in Seattle, WA to J. LeRoy and Margaret Allsopp, she lived a life of abundance in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
Beth was a proud graduate of Foster High School and Seattle Pacific College. She earned a BA and MA in teaching. She devoted her life to her family, students, and community.
Beth loved fiercely and unconditionally. She listened, with empathy and kindness. She laughed on roller coasters.
Beth loved learning and was insatiably curious. With two library cards and a Kindle, she often nestled into the couch with a book. Inside their covers, she traveled to places and times only reachable through imagination. She shared her joy of words as a teacher for over 30 years in Walla Walla, Duvall, and Mercer Island’s Island Park Elementary. She loved teaching, especially first grade. Beth sought to connect with each of her students. With her belief in them, they learned to believe in themselves.
Beth radiated hope and love. Her life was a gift. She will be missed deeply.
Beth is survived by the love of her life, husband of 50 years, Stephen; daughter Heidi (Aaron), son Daniel; beloved grandchildren Jonah and Greta; brothers Jim (Carol) and Dean (Robin).
A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, May 19th at 1:30 pm at Westside Presbyterian Church in West Seattle. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercer Island Youth and Family Services.
