December 12, 1923 – January 25, 2024
Florence Ann (Kurth) Waggoner, 100, of Mercer Island, WA, passed away January 25, 2024, surrounded by the love and presence of family.
“Grandma Flo” was born on December 12, 1923 on the family farm outside of Hutchinson, MN. She was the daughter of Alma and Otto Kurth. After high school, she worked in Minneapolis for Kress Co. before spending time traveling and moving to Los Angeles for a year early in World War 2. She later traveled to Seattle, WA to join some friends skiing and ended up working for a Vice President of Boeing Sales and meeting her beloved Herb whom she married May 20, 1953 in her parents’ home. She and Herb moved to the Island, where they raised their family and lived until their deaths.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Oliver and Ervin Kurth and husband Herb. She is survived by her children Scott (Lorraine Porter), Tracy (Tom Graff ) and Corey (Caroline Davoli) and six grandchildren.
In addition to the abiding love she had for her family, Flo enjoyed travel, walking, puzzles, a good, dry gin martini and chocolate. As her memory declined, she continued to take pleasure in every moment as it happened and never lost her gratitude for a good and long life full of the people she loved.
Florence’s memorial service will be held on February 3rd at 1:30 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church located at 8501 SE 40th St., Mercer Island.
