Gerald (Gerry) York

Gerry York, 70, of Bellevue, formerly of Mercer Island, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011, after suffering a stroke. Born Gerald Cecil York on September 25, 1940, in Seattle, WA, he grew up in the Pinehurst neighborhood in north Seattle. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958, and graduated from the University of Washington in 1962, where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity and played Husky football. Gerry was active in Mercer Island youth sports programs and enjoyed coaching. He was a good man and good friend, and will be missed by many. Gerry married Sally Ford in 1963 and they had two children, daughter Carrie York Williams (husband Mark Williams) and son Brice York (wife Megan Nichols). Gerry was also very proud of his three beloved grandchildren: Chase York, Elisabeth and Braden Williams, all of Mercer Island. Gerry spent many years working in sales and customer service, in fine furniture manufacturing and telecommunications. He was a fan of Seattle Mariner baseball, and spring training. His second home near the Potholes (“The Lodge”) was his other favorite place to be, near Moses Lake, where he loved to hunt water fowl and pheasants, and tinker with his boats. A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held Saturday, February 26, at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 4400 86th Ave SE, Mercer Island. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice.
