Grace Thurston Moore
Grace Moore was born January 18, 1917 in Paterson, New Jersey, the only child of Arthur and Grace Thurston. She attended Montclair State College where she earned a Bachelor and a Master Degree. She initially worked as a teacher until the start of World War II, when she went to work for Curtiss Wright Aeronautical Company as a test engineer. There she met Vincent, her beloved husband of 68 years. They were married in 1944. After the war she left Curtiss Wright to raise her family. She had three children, David, Geoffrey, and Sarah. She was a wonderful mother who was always present to help her children, constantly teaching and encouraging them, and supporting them in their own lives and dreams. She believed that education was very important. She was an avid reader and never stopped learning. In 1962, the family moved to Mercer Island. Grace was actively involved in Emmanuel Episcopal Church and she made many of her lifelong friends within that church community. She was the Director of Sunday School Education, a faithful member of the Altar Guild, and helped manage Emmy’s Attic which gave its profits for outreach for the church. She was always concerned with helping people in need. She believed strongly that outreach was one of the most important missions for the church. Family and friends were the most important part of Grace’s life. She was devoted to her husband Vincent and her children and grandchildren. She volunteered her time and talents to Emmanuel Church and Covenant Shores, where she and Vincent have lived since 1995. She was always there to help family and friends, and provide comfort to someone in need. Grace was a gracious lady. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a gentle and caring soul. Her greatest gift she gave to her family and friends was her love, her constant presence, her ability to listen, and her unwavering support. Grace was preceded in death by her son David. She is survived by her husband Vincent Moore, her daughter Sarah Bostwick and her husband Tom Bostwick, her son Geoffrey Moore, and her grandchildren Colin Moore and Michelle Moore. Grace passed away peacefully on March 7, 2013 with her loving family by her side. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Mercer Island Covenant Shores Health Center for the wonderful care they gave Grace and their kindness to her family. Remembrances can be made to the Northwest Kidney Foundation, Seattle, WA or Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Mercer Island, WA.
