Helen Poplack Ellenbogen

1914-2011

Helen grew up in Everett, WA and graduated University of Washington 1936, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa. She was a social worker in the 1930’s and a longtime school teacher including Roosevelt High School in Seattle. Helen, a long time resident of Mercer Island, was married to the late Ronald Chess and late Rabbi (Col.) Edward Ellenbogen. She was a member of Temple De Hirsch Sinai and was a member of the Women’s University Club for 30 years. Helen is survived by children Stephen (Diana) Chess, Roger Chess and grandchildren Richard Chess, Valeria Samarsky, Daniel Ellenbogen, and Jennie Spease.
