Irving Hirsch was born July 14, 1942, in Norwalk, CT, to parents Celia & Emil Hirsch, German Holocaust Refugees.
Doted on by loving sisters, Ruth Miller &Beatrice Polley, Irving was encouraged to attend UConn where he graduated with a bachelors and masters in engineering.
Irving was hired by the Boeing Company where he worked for 40 years, starting on the hydrofoil projects, and retiring as Department Director of Phantom Works. Upon arriving in Seattle, Irving met the love of his life, Bobbi Hirsch, who he was married to for 51 years prior to her sudden passing in 2018. Through Irving’s hard work, intellect, and drive, he rose through the ranks of Boeing in managerial roles. Irving loved management. Much of his people experience was gained by being President of Herzl-Ner-Tamid synagogue when he was 38. Later in life, Irving chaired the National Aeronautics and Astronautics convention, in Seattle, Washington. Irving was very proud to have attended a space launch as a VIP and to have numerous patents during the earlier years of his career.
Irving loved spending time at Cannon Beach with his family, children Julie Hirsch, Rise & Geoffrey Hirsch, and grandchildren, Max and Ava; going to Mariner & Seahawk games; watching all sports on TV; outings with his best friend, Leon Goodman, and family gatherings with his extended family especially his loving nieces and nephews, Robin Penna, Barry Polley, Alan Miller, Gail Shane, Shayna
Johnson, Alex Hauptli, and Rachel Wilcox. Irving was warm, and quiet, kind, brilliant, and as he did not take up a lot of space, he had room for many people to enter his life.
Irving was incredibly resilient and after his beloved wife, Bobbi, passed away in 2018, he continued to reside in his home for a year socializing with his neighbors despite having Parkinson’s disease. Irving never complained and he was always positive, greeting everyone with a big smile, and a sincere compliment. After a year, he was ready to move to assisted living, and he began his new chapter at Aegis Mercer Island. While at Aegis, he made new friends,
and continued marching forward. In the last year of his life, he had two care givers, Sola and Toby, who became part of the Hirsch family. The Hirsch’s are extremely grateful for the good care that Irving received at Aegis MI.
Irving passed away on March 26th, 2021 from Parkinson’s related complications, with his children Julie and Geoffrey by his side. Irving was preceded in death by his wife and soul mate, Bobbi Hirsch; his parents Emil and Celia; and his sister Beatrice (Ben) Polley. In addition to his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, he is survived by his sister Ruth Miller (Sheldon), sister-in-law’s Rhoda Bensussen, Helene (Gary) Hauptli, and Leslie Wilcox. There will be a gathering at a later date to honor Irving’s memory. Tributes can be made to Herzl- Ner-Tamid synagogue, NW Parkinson’s Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
