James Robert Rauch, Sr.
Jim passed away at home on Mercer Island on Father’s Day, June 20, 2010 at the age of 79. Born on August 7, 1930 in St. Charles, MO, Jim spent his youth in the tradition of Huckleberry Finn. Jim graduated St. Louis University High School and went on to business school, graduating from Regis College in Denver, CO in 1952. He married Bitty Hutton in 1961. Jim and Bitty celebrated 49 years of marriage and the raising of 3 children: Mary, Jim Jr., and Kathleen. He delighted in his 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by his 2 sisters: Mary Blodgett and Jane Rauch. Jim had a lifelong career with Weyerhaeuser, where he is remembered for his love of the outdoors, his loyalty to his co-workers and clients, and his integrity as a business man. In work and in the community, Jim was known for his ever cheerful optimism and eager willingness to help. Jim generously volunteered his time and energy in support of NW Harvest, Children’s Hospital, the ESL program at Bellevue College, and most recently as a kindergarten assistant at Puesta Del Sol Elementary where his grandchildren attend. His loyalty and kindness touched many. Jim had many passions in life including hiking, skiing, fishing, tennis and the occasional cliff jumping at the Fire Hole River in Yellowstone National Park much to his wife’s dismay. Jim had a special love for dogs, particularly his schnauzer Katie and the community of friends who gather at the dog park at Luther Burbank. He died of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Remembrances can be made to NW Harvest Food Bank, P.O. Box 12272, Seattle, WA 98102 or a charity of your choice. Please share memories at JimRauchRemembered@hotmail.com. No memorial is planned at Jim’s request.
