James Thomas Monahan passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 15, 2016. He was 79.
James was born October 16, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA. His parents were James Joseph and Mary Veronica Monahan from Forest Hills, a neighborhood located in Queens, NY.
He graduated from Fordham University with a degree in Business Administration, before earning his law degree from St. John’s University in New York City.
James met his beloved wife of 50 years, Judith, on a blind date in New York City, where she danced on Broadway. They were married on September 10, 1966 at Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue.
After passing the New York State Bar exam, James joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and passionately served our country. He later became a corporate attorney, before starting his own practice in Seattle, WA.
James never missed a Notre Dame football game, and passed along his love of sports to both of his sons. Always wearing his lucky Seattle SuperSonics hat, James enjoyed retirement by spending time with his family and gardening. A devout Catholic, James had a strong belief in his personal God.
His infamous stories will not fade, thanks to his eldest son, James, who shares his love for history. And his signature whistle – which would always fill his home with warmth and love – lives on in his youngest son, Thomas.
Among all of his accomplishments, he was proudest of his role as a husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Judith; two sons, James Monahan (Sue) and Thomas Monahan (Autumn); three grandchildren, Daniel, Adelyn and Elise; and brother Gerard Monahan. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Monahan.
A Funeral Mass and celebration of his life will be held in late December.
