Jane Andrene Hyatt, 97, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2016. Born in Seattle on April 30, 1919, Jane was the only child of Frank Andrew and Ethel Jane (Luke) Byers. After graduation from Roosevelt High School, Jane entered the University of Washington, where she earned a degree in Home Economics. While at the U of W, she met Merle W. Hyatt. They were married in 1941, and between 1942 and 1948 they had four children. Jane was a teacher of elementary education, and excelled at teaching students to read. After Merle retired, Jane worked for several years at Farmer’s Insurance Company on Mercer Island. Jane and Merle loved to travel, and spent many months traveling in Australia. After Merle died in 1989, Jane moved to Selah, where she remained in her much loved home until her death.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Neale, and her great-granddaughter Kari Everson. She is survived by three daughters: Susan Barnes of Mercer Island, Judith St. Pierre of Goldendale, and Kay Shemanski of Selah. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.Her family will always remember her unfailing faithfulness to them.
