Joan “Jody” Memrie (Goss) Logan, age 92, died on February 24, 2017 at Seaside Providence Hospital in Seaside, Oregon from complications due to a stroke, heart failure and neck fracture suffered ten days earlier. She was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on October 16, 1924 and graduated from Shortridge High School, Indianapolis in 1942.
Jody graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana in October 1945. At Purdue she met Gordon Arthur Logan and they were married on June 22, 1946 at her parents’ home in Indianapolis.
Gordon and Jody moved to Shanks Village in Orangeburg, New York in 1947 while Gordon attended medical school at Columbia University. Upon his graduation they moved to Seattle in 1951. They moved to Mercer Island in 1954 where Jody resided until Gordon’s death in July 2012. She subsequently moved to an assisted-living facility in Seaside, Oregon, near her son.
Jody taught school in New York after her graduation. She was involved in skiing, boating and fishing throughout Washington state. She and Gordon enjoyed dancing and traveling to Dixieland jazz festivals. Jody also loved gardening, was affiliated with the Lake Washington Garden Club and volunteered at the University of Washington Arboretum.
Jody is the daughter of Edgar Keith Goss, Sr. and Gladys Gertrude (Canaday) Goss and is preceded in death by sister Virginia Keith (Goss) Emerson and brother Edgar Keith Goss, Jr.
Jody is survived by children James and Patricia Logan of Cannon Beach, OR; David and Stephanie Logan of Ferndale, WA; Bruce Logan of Ferndale, WA; and Beth Logan Young of North Bend, WA; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A reception to celebrate Jody’s life will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2017, in Spring Hall at the East Shore Unitarian Church at 12700 SE 32nd St., Bellevue, Washington.
