June 7, 1927 – September 24, 2017
John Alexander Livingstone passed away peacefully on September 24, 2017 in Portland, OR, at the age of 90.
Born and raised in Rhode Island, he served in the Navy after high school, obtained his engineering degree, headed west to join Boeing, and fell in love – with Seattle and with a girl name Sue.
‘Big John’ was a longtime fixture of Mercer Island’s high school sports scene. In addition to cheering on the locals, John’s passions included family, friends, sailing, and decorating his house for the holidays, never passing up an opportunity to add another string of lights or lawn reindeer. He was a friend to many in the Mercer Island Radio Operators group and his Silver Sneakers class.
John enjoyed every day, and he will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. He is survived by his wife Sue, daughter Laurie (husband, Kyle), and by his son’s children Jackson and Poppy, all of whom he adored. His amazing son John II, brother Charles, and sister Jane predeceased him. He will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
At his request, there will be no service. A celebration of life will take place whenever you remember him fondly. In lieu of memorial contributions, support your local student-athletes, put some festive lights on your house, and love everybody.
