John Hutter
October 11, 1924 – July 8, 2011
John Edward Hutter of Mercer Island, WA passed away peacefully on July 8, 2011 at the age of 86. Born in Madison, Wisconsin to Ray and Winifred Hutter, John
graduated from University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and from Illinois Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was also a very accomplished professional musician on flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe and bassoon. John began playing with bands at the age of 14 and traveled all over the country. He played with name bands such as Frank Sinatra and Jimmy Dorsey. John met his beloved wife, Dorothy Hutter, of 53 years in Chicago. They moved to Mercer Island, WA in 1962 and lived there together for 47 years. John truly loved the outdoors and the Pacific Northwest. He was an avid skier and hiker. He was a member of the Mountaineers for many years. He worked for The Boeing Company for 25 years and taught music to over 100 students. He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. John was a very learned man who was always eager to share his knowledge with others. Like his wife who passed away just three weeks prior, he maintained optimism and never gave up despite a very difficult last seven years. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who loved his family more than anything in the world. He was so proud of all of them. He is survived by his daughter, Jane Ann (Marcel) Pighin and granddaughters, Melissa and Michelle Pighin. A grave site service will be held at Sunset Hills Funeral Home in Bellevue on July 22, 2011 at 2:00pm.
