November 3, 1940 – November 11, 2024
Judy Fergin passed away at her residence at Belair House in Cle Elum, Washington. Born in Miami, Florida to Ernest and Constance Cobb, Judy was raised by her maternal grandmother, Adela Garcia. A graduate of Temple University, Judy married William R. Anderson, and they started their family on Mercer Island.
Judy experienced much in her 84 years, but what endures to those closest to her was how she cared so deeply for them, as well as strangers who needed help. Judy lived by 2 Corinthians 9:7: “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” She recognised that unexpected kindness was the key to a happy life.
In 1982, she married Rev. James A. Fergin, remaining so until his death in 2021. She and Jim traveled regularly, all over the mainland US, as well as Kauai. They were dedicated members of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Bellevue and ardently supported the Lake Union Civic Orchestra, founded by their former son-in-law, Dr. John P. Alderete.
Judy loved to make quilts and often gave them to friends and donated them for various causes. She offered insightful advice, shared lots of recipes and newspaper articles via snail mail, made a delectable pineapple upside down cake, and could make anyone feel comfortable in her presence.
The 40 years Jim and Judy had together was a testament to bringing out the best in each other, serving God, and loving their neighbor. To embody Judy’s life of altruism and compassion: volunteer your time, share with those less fortunate, and engage in unexpected kindness.
Judy is survived by her daughter Karen (Anderson) Schletz, her grandsons Josh Porter and Ethan Alexander Alderete, and her brother Ernie Cobb. She is preceded in death by her son, John Howard Anderson, and is dearly missed by the Alderete, Fenimore, and Fergin families.
