Karen (Steiner) Mullen
Karen (Steiner) Mullen passed away on December 15, 2010 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Karen was born in Seattle on October 11, 1962 during the famous Columbus Day Storm. She spent her childhood in Burien, Edmonds, and Redmond, WA. Karen graduated from Lake Washington High School in 1981, attended Western Washington University, and ultimately graduated with honors from the University of Washington. On September 15, 1990 Karen married Garrett Mullen, and in 2010 they celebrated their 20th anniversary together in Rome, Italy, a place they both treasured. Karen loved her kitties, hummingbirds, any excuse for a party, scary movies, Hawaii, shopping, purses, and an occasional glass of expensive tequila. But more than anything she loved her son Grant, 14, the pride of her life. He is truly his mother’s son, and his life, philosophy, and personality exhibit her spirit in so, so many ways. Karen is survived by her husband, Garrett, son Grant, sister (and best friend) Sheri Steiner, brother David Steiner, mother Chris Stewart-Price, nieces April Steiner and Anna Steiner, and nephews Andrew Steiner and Robert Steiner. She was pre-deceased in May, 2010 by her brother Stephen Steiner, an unexpected event which broke her heart. Karen was the spirit and energy of our family, and a source of strength and life to us all. We were all just planets circling her sun, and we will miss her terribly. In lieu of flowers, please send donations, in her name, to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 112 Fifth Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98109, or to the charity of your choice. A reception in honor of Karen’s life will be held on Sunday, January
16 at 2PM at The Ruins, 570 Roy Street, Seattle.
