Lew passed away suddenly and peacefully at her home on January 25, 2018. She was 76.

She is survived by her husband of over 54 years Jim, sons Hart (Laura) and Matt (Tanya), sister Liz Cole, and five grandchildren – Samuel, Margaret, Maya, Sienna, and Emma.

Lew was a proud graduate of Stanford University as well as the University of Washington. After receiving her PhD from UW she embarked on a career at the UW School of Social Work focusing on long term research in prevention methodology in at-risk populations. She was also a respected mentor to many doctoral candidates. Lew held may positions in the School, including interim dean and retired in 2007.

A memorial service will be held in March. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the University of Washington School of Social Work.
