Lorraine V. Hansen, longtime resident of Mercer Island, died peacefully at home on Sunday April 2, 2017. She had recently celebrated her 97th birthday.
Lorraine was born on March 16, 1920 in Seattle, the daughter of John and Agnes Fischer. She was raised in Issaquah, and delighted in sharing stories of those early years with her friends. As a young woman, Lorraine travelled to San Francisco where she studied dress design before returning to Seattle to pursue a career in the aerospace industry as a mechanical draftsman. She married Robert (Bob) Hansen and they welcomed son Gary to their family in 1949. Settling on Mercer Island, Lorraine enjoyed many happy years together with her family and friends.
A member of the Mercer Island Women’s Club for over 30 years, she served on the Board and truly valued the wonderful friendships she made through Club activities. Lorraine will always be remembered for her beautiful sense of style and the positive attitude that guided her life.
Survivors include Lorraine’s beloved brother John (Nick) Fischer of Bellevue, several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, son Gary, sister Eleanor Connole, and brother George Fischer.
At her request, after a private service Lorraine was laid to rest with her departed family at Hillside Cemetery in Issaquah.
