Louise L. Fishbaugher | Obituary

Sept. 24, 1928 – Feb. 28, 2025

Louise and her twin sister, Lorena, were born on 9-24-28, in Iona, Minnesota. They spent their early life in Slayton, a small farming town in southeastern MN. Louise often said she was grateful to have a twin sister as she was never without a friend. In 1946, she and Lorena entered St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, MN which is affiliated with the Mayo Clinic. After graduation, fearing she’d become a farmer’s wife if she stayed in MN, she headed to Richland, WA where engineers were being hired to work at Hanford. There she found a nursing job at Kadlec Hospital and future husband and engineer, John Fishbaugher, who was also from MN and a Catholic. They spent their early years in the Tri-Cities, WA, a brief time in Naperville, Ill and the past 50 years in Mercer Island, WA. As a longtime parishioner of St. Monica Catholic Church, Louise was active in many ministries from, Visiting the Sick, Friends of the Needy and Perpetual Adoration, to name just a few. The past several years, Louise lived in an assisted-living facility where she passed away on February 28, surrounded by her loving family. Louise was a kind, loving, and generous person who was devoted to her family, Catholic faith and enjoyed sharing her love of a good book. She will be dearly missed!

She is preceded in death by her husband, John, and is survived by her children; Janet, Bob (Kim) and Mark (Christine),14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 4th at 10am (rosary will begin at 9:25am) at St. Monica Catholic Church, 4311 88th Ave SE, Mercer Island, with a reception following.
