Louise (Lou) Smith, age 94, died on Oct. 29, 2009. She was an eight-year resident of Mercer Island and a former resident of Island House. Mrs. Smith joined the World War II war effort as a nurse. She was stationed close to the front lines in the European theater and provided care and comfort to wounded soldiers. While in the military, she met her husband of 57 years, Curtis Smith. Upon retiring from the military, she continued nursing for an additional 30 years.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters, Lauryn Galindo, of Princeville, Hawaii, and Lynn and her husband, Alan Michael, who have resided on Mercer Island for 21 years and have four children, Karrah, Kassie, Alix and Jake; and her dog, Toto.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, where she will be laid to rest next to Curtis. There will be a lunch served at the home of her daughter, Lynn Michael, at 7030 S.E. Maker Street, immediately after.
