Maria Cabrera Janusz died peacefully, surrounded by several of her children, on June 26, 2009, in Bellevue, Wash.
Mrs. Janusz was born on July 14, 1929, in Tampico, Mexico, where she spent most of her childhood. She met Norbert “Vic” Janusz of Youngstown, Ohio, while visiting her Uncle Charlie Cabrera in Toledo. On April 17, 1954, they married and then resided in Cleveland, Ohio. The couple moved to Seattle, Wash., in 1958 and then to San Diego, Calif., where they lived until 1975, when they moved to Mercer Island. Mr. and Mrs. Janusz were early members of St. Monica Catholic Church. Mrs. Janusz was an active member of the Legion of Mary, the Rosary Makers and was a Missionary of Mercy through the SOLT Ministries. Mrs. Janusz’s devotion to the Blessed Mother was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Mrs. Janusz was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Mary Lee Cabrera, and by her beloved husband, Vic, in 1987.
She is survived by her five children, Norma Kraft, of Sammamish; Maria Elena Riippi, of Tacoma; Monica Lee Laning, of Gig Harbor; Karla Lynn Eskro, of Seattle; and Victor Alan Janusz, of Seattle; and grandchildren, Kristofer and Katharine Kraft; Joseph and Christine Riippi; and Alex and Daniel Laning. Mrs. Janusz’s brother, Carlos Cabrera, of Pittsburgh, Calif., and sister, Yolanda Stygar, of Pasadena, Calif., also survive, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary and funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 10, and will be conducted by Father Negusse Kaleta and Deacon Jack Warfield. A reception will follow in the Family Center at St. Monica. Inurnment will take place in San Diego, Calif. Remembrances are suggested to St. Monica Catholic Church.
