June 28, 1933- November 27, 2024
Marilyn Metz Beaufort passed away on November 27, 2024. She was born in Seattle on June 28, 1933 to Amy and Franklin Metz and enjoyed playing with her younger sister Shirley (Pursche).
Marilyn grew up in Seattle. She attended Bryant Elementary school and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Then she attended Whitman College where she studied Library Science. She met John Joseph Beaufort at a city wide dance in Seattle where they had their first dance to the classic song “Blue Moon” and their romance started. They were married on November 25, 1954, and settled on Mercer Island, where they would live for the next 60 plus years. They had three sons: Ralph (Marla), Richard (Nadine) and David (Linda) who loved playing in the woods, working on old cars boats and anything they could get their hands on at the family home.
Marilyn worked for the Mercer Island School District as a librarian for 25 years. She helped countless students during her career, working at both Island Park Elementary and Mercer Island High School.
In addition to her time as a librarian, Marilyn had a variety of interests. She was a lifelong learner and combined that with a passion for travel. She was always planning (and saving for) her next trip. She was accomplished at quilting, knitting, and sewing and never lacked for a project that could be found draped across her lap. She was also an avid reader who spent many hours devouring books while cruising on the family Sailboat. She loved a good road trip whether in a modern car or an antique car.
Marilyn and John were married for nearly 65 years. John passed away on October 24, 2019 (89). She leaves behind a living legacy of her sons and their wives, five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one niece and one nephew. She touched all of them in her unique ways and will be forever missed. There will be no service at Marilyn’s request.
